I remember hanging out in the FakeNews community back in the day, but yeah, back then people who liked Jon and Stephen together (myself included!) were just having a bit of fun with the concept. I don't remember it ever crossing over into active speculation about their real life sexuality or anything of that sort, or fans arguing with each other over the issue.

Sad to hear that kind of attitude has shown up in that fandom in recent times. I have yet to personally come across any of those sorts of comments you mention, but I'm not on a whole lot of social media platforms (I don't have Twitter or Tumblr accounts, for instance), so apparently I've just been lucky enough to miss that type of conversation. But now I know they're out there, I'll just try to stay away from that type of discussion as much as possible.
