Vaguely based on 6

What was something you thought would be good but ended up sucking?

Donald Trump running for President. I thought it'd be a good laugh, never knowing the horror we'd be in for.

I don't mean to be rude but it's hard to find a polite way to say this

That was never a reasonable or justifiable belief to hold, and you should strongly reconsider the processes and attitudes that led you to hold it

nayrt but to be fair, lots of people didn't think he had a chance of winning, so they thought he'd run and faceplant even harder and more hilariously than McCain/Palin.

I didn't say I voted for him (I knew what a disaster that would be), I just thought he had no chance at all and it'd be an amusing short term thing when he first ran.

Oh, it's plenty amusing when you're far, far away from the crazy.

It sucks donkey balls for anyone within a 40,000 mile radius of it.

Idk I remember when he first announced thinking "Lol, he'll drop out in a week." It was a pretty common reaction.

Get real. Very few people outside of his base thought he had a chance in hell before the Republican primaries.

Re: Vaguely based on 6

(Anonymous) 2018-03-14 05:35 pm (UTC)(link)
But there wasn't any actual compelling reason to think that he wasn't a serious candidate. He was consistently leading in the polls for a long time. People just refused to seriously consider the possible that he could win the primaries. It was an incorrect mode of thinking at the time. There were arguments that he might not win, but they were exaggerated into the belief that he didn't have a chance, and this was an error. It's not just a hindsight thing. It was an incorrect mode of thinking and analysis even at the time, driven by errors in thinking and assumptions that have to be conquered and destroyed.

And it had an impact - it wasn't inevitable that Trump would win the nomination, and it's certainly possible that, had the other Republican candidates in the field taken him seriously, he wouldn't have done.

There's a lol factor, but it's a cruel one, and frankly comes for a place of ultra privilege. This was never a joke, from the moment he became a serious candidate.

Have we forgotten that not a hell of a lot of people DIDN'T THINK he was a serious candidate at first?

That was an incorrect belief

DC movies in general. I love the characters, so I always have hope. But I am almost always disappointed.

The Hobbit movies. Just. The Hobbit movies.

Fantastic Beasts should have hit all of my buttons, but turned out to be an exceedingly dull Harry Potter story with characters swapped.

How did you feel about the new trailer?

Not terribly interested.

The Revenant. What a boring ass movie.

Her Story (the game). My sister really liked but I found it super underwhelming.

The Betrayal Knows My Name. On paper, it sounded like it'd be right up my alley and I thought the art was lovely, but I read it and it just fell flat for me. I think I would've loved it had I read it a couple of years ago, but it just doesn't work for me now.

Another, the anime. I keep seeing praise for it but I couldn't even finish watching it.

All I know from this is that it had a lot of <src="https://imgur.com/gallery/gb7tf">pie related memes.

The link didn't work but I googled to find pie memes. They seem more coherent than the show did. But a lot of people did enjoy it, so... maybe it's me.

Not super-good, but I thought Godzilla 2014 would be a lot better than it was. The trailers made it look so promising, but it ended up being a 2 hour human-drama snoozefest that didn't have anywhere near enough monster-smashy to make any of that shit worth it.

Death Parade, Psycho-Pass, Yuki Yuna Is A Hero . . . I’m learning that grim dark anime live or die on whether the characters are fresh and likable enough to care about their suffering.

Aw, I liked Death Parade. Probably because I really enjoyed all the seiyuus, not because it was overwhelmingly special or anything, but it was a fun watch.

A long while back, I bought a VHS of Wendi and Richard Pini’s Elfquest. I thought I was going to get a reasonably well animated version of some of the first Elfquest comics.
Instead, it was a lazy, cheaply made SLIDESHOW of the first comics.
I got rid of it ASAP, I was so disgusted.
