Lukewarm take here....

Maybe the reason why there are few good movies adapting electronic gaming for the same reason that there are few good movies adapting poetry, sculpture, non-dramatic music, painting, or architecture. Sure, we have plenty of artist biopics involving hefty amounts of fantasy, but that's a genre endogenous to film. There are exceptions, primarily in experimental and short films, but only a handful of feature film releases.
