What fandom trends do you not like?

(Anonymous) 2018-03-21 11:24 pm (UTC)(link)
Or just don't get?

A/B/O.

I just don't get the fascination with it to be honest. It seems like all that is wrong and terrible with slashfic and gender stereotyping in general. And it seems to be EVERYWHERE.

I don't get 'little' fic either.

I agree. Well, there are parts I'd find interesting. The biological stuff would interest me if the gender stereotyping stuff wasn't always included. Give me dominant omegas and submissive alphas and I'd be really happy.

Same. To be clear, I have no problem with people writing it and I just skip over a fic if it's tagged as such, but I just don't get it.

Yeah, I agree on the ABO stuff. I don't get the appeal. Plus, self-lubricating assholes just sound weird.

Writing awful characters as not bad at all and completely justified in every horrible thing they did. Nuance is great. Woobying is not, at least to me.

The prevalence of smut where the bottom or submissive character doesn't even seem to be enjoying themselves when at the same time the fic portrays the characters as in love and a great couple. Really? I get it when you're writing things like hate sex. But when you are writing a character being talked into sex they don't really want and then don't even enjoy when you want us to buy that the two characters are in love, I feel like I'm missing something.

Honestly I'd just love more enthusiastic, participatory bottoms/subs in general. But the above trope just bothers me.

Fandom mood board things. They just seem so pointless to me. I don't hate them, but I do wish I'd see less of them.

It depends on the fandom for me. Or, more specifically, my main fandom makes gorgeous mood boards. And art posts in general. I'm not a fan in other fandoms, but I love the ones my main fandom does.

Mpreg. I just don't get it, but maybe it's because I'm not a fan of "babies ever after" in general.

I don't like it either, but is it still a trend? I haven't run across an mpreg fic in a long time.

I'm not sure actually, but it's fresh in my mind because I was reading a really cute fic a couple of days ago that ended in surprise mpreg and it kinda soured the fic for me.

I think I'm less interested in the actual baby in mpreg and more interested in putting a male character in a feminized role, tbh.

With you on this one, mostly because every author who writes mpreg seems to take all the absolute *worst* bits of female pregnancy/moods/attitude/etc and heap them on all the male gravida.

I especially hate that they inevitably make the guy a weepy, moody, completely ridiculous mess and/or the most mommiest mom to ever mom.

*One* Stargate Atlantis fic did it right, in my opinion: surprise!mpreg from an Ancient machine, and the person impregnated was like 'get it the fuck out of me now'.
