If I was reincarnated, there's a good chance I was the artist Francis Bacon in a past life! :D

(A wannabe artist can dream, can't they?)

(Anonymous) 2018-03-23 12:21 am (UTC)(link)
They certainly can. Aspiring to a great artist's height is totally admirable imo. ;)

(Anonymous) 2018-03-22 11:50 pm (UTC)(link)
Holy shit, other people do this too? Nice to know I'm not the only person who does this. High five, OP!

(Anonymous) 2018-03-23 12:22 am (UTC)(link)
*high five* :D

I won't lie; I've done this once or twice when I was younger.

I'm so relieved knowing that other folks have done this too. It was a little bit embarrassing to me having these sort of doubts, but when I really think about it, I guess it's just me looking up to some historical role models who I admire. Then I try and figure out what is it exactly that I like about them, and what aspects of their life I could try and achieve in mine. In that way, maybe they still live on. :)

Do you count from your conception or moment of birth?

First question that popped into my head and I'm really curious.

Good question. I would count it from the point that the brain has something of a consciousness instead of automatic reflexes or twitching. A zygote is as good as skin cells soul-wise imo. So pretty much I'm count from birth.

If you're Chinese, you count from conception. If you're Western, you count from birth.

non-reincarnation, but old school catholic doctrine used to be that the soul entered the body at "quickening" - aka around the time the mom felt the first kick

which given what we know now about fetal brain development and pre-natal learning, sounds like a good compromise to me.

(also: gives you more wiggle room)

There were a couple of times as a kid when I fantasized about being the reincarnation of specific famous, talented people... and eventually learned they both died *after* I was born.

(Anonymous) 2018-03-23 02:49 am (UTC)(link)
Hahaha, same! I did that twice, and I swear I heard the Curb Your Enthusiasm theme play in my head afterwards.

This secret resonates with me. I don't believe in anything either (though I wish I did) but I like to imagine things like this.

I don't usually think of celebs though. When I was younger, I took this online quiz about how you died in a past life. According to my result, I was burned at the stake for witchcraft. I loved that result so that's what I go with.

(Anonymous) 2018-03-23 02:53 am (UTC)(link)
People thought mathematics was witchcraft back then, so being burned at the stake probably meant that you were a pretty forward-thinking person. I like that. B)

My cat died and I got another cat who was born on the same day that my old cat died. I'm glad it wasn't a reincarnation, because I loved my first cat but he had some serious problems.

I can understand that. I have a wonderful dog that I love, but honestly after him I wouldn't want another pet. He's a high-maintenance dog that I rescued from another person, and after him I'd like a break.
