Do you count from your conception or moment of birth?

First question that popped into my head and I'm really curious.

Good question. I would count it from the point that the brain has something of a consciousness instead of automatic reflexes or twitching. A zygote is as good as skin cells soul-wise imo. So pretty much I'm count from birth.

If you're Chinese, you count from conception. If you're Western, you count from birth.

non-reincarnation, but old school catholic doctrine used to be that the soul entered the body at "quickening" - aka around the time the mom felt the first kick

which given what we know now about fetal brain development and pre-natal learning, sounds like a good compromise to me.

(also: gives you more wiggle room)
