What are some things that people do that REALLY only affects them,

(Anonymous) 2018-03-23 11:11 pm (UTC)(link)
That you HATE?

I'm trying to answer this, but I'm finding it difficult to think of anything that REALLY only affects one person to begin with

Can you give an example of what you're looking for?

But if you've noticed it or thought about it in order to hate it, it's inspired emotion in you so it's affected you, right?

Is this a troll response?

ARE YOU KIDDING WITH THIS?

Re: Is this a troll response?

No. I could hate it if someone has a self-harm habit. You could argue that "only really" hurts them. But if their family notices it and hates it and hurts from it, is it "only really" hurting the self-harmer?

If I kill myself, am I "only really" hurting myself?

How do you define "REALLY" only themselves?

DA

Your comment implies that self-destructive behavior would harm their family if the family noticed and was upset by it, so if no one noticed (or noticed but did not care and wasn't upset), the self-destructive person would only be hurting themselves.

No, it asks whether that would be the case and what OP meant by "REALLY only affects them".

Does that example count for OP? Does it not count for OP?

Can one hate that a family member is suicidal without knowing they are and consequently affected by worry? If they did know, would that count because OP thinks they aren't being "really" affected? Or would it not count because they are being affected?

How can you know something without being affected by it, and how can you be affected by something without knowing about it?

You can be aware of and have an opinion on something without it directly affecting you/someone in your life.

Ear expanders. I think they look hideous and I worry that the person is going to break the skin of their ear trying to expand it, even though I'm sure with proper care that doesn't happen. But since it is absolutely none of my damn business I keep it to myself.

Ear gauges and septum piercings. Obviously it's nothing that affects me, but I'm mildly grossed out by both and end up having to be extra polite to hide it.

Eating in the office. I think I got some mild misophonia going on.

Although come to think about it, chewing co-worker is also the "I'm dying even though I'm 10 years younger than everyone else" hypochondriac of the office.
