- American. Girl. When I was a kid, American Girl was a series of historical fiction books. Now it's all about the dolls, with the books as a side option.

- Hulu. I remember when Hulu was a free (legal) streaming service. I have no idea if they were pressured to make it pay-only or if that was their plan all along, but either way, it's annoying.

Oooo! I never had the money for the dolls (and I'd always prefer to use it on a game or something if I'd managed to save it up), but I read most of the books! I loved them.

We never had the money for dolls, but my mom, sister, and I read the books growing up. A year ago, I happened to be passing by an American Girl store, so I stuck my head in. The salesperson was mildly confused when I asked them where the books were; turns out there was just half a wall of books by the checkout area (and not even all the books I remembered, whomp whomp). :(

I still like American Girl, but I definitely prefer the older dolls. And I must say that the whole point of the books was to get you to buy the dolls, so they were always about dolls, but they definitely used to place a greater emphasize on history. The newer books are a little disappointing because the "Peek Into the Past" section isn't as expansive as it was in the older books, but I do like the new characters (especially Melody). However, a doll that's over a hundred bucks should have eyes that fucking close the whole way and even if I like the character in the book, I refuse to buy the doll because of all the cost-cutting measures.

I can't argue that Hulu used to be free and now it isn't, but it has a lot more stuff, including stuff produced by them that I love like The Handmaid's Tale and Harlots. To me it's worth paying for.

I don't blame you for hating it but it would never have what it has now if it were still free.

You always had to pay for full seasons of things, but they had a lot of episode clips for free that they now require you to pay for.

True.
