Do you know how to use Cuts in dreamwidth?

The same as in LJ, only without the lj part < cut > < /cut >
If you want text then cut text " "

I'm deliberately making the html weird because it won't show anything at all if you just leave one little space.

How do I get nail polish out of a carpet or out of leather? A red nail polish fell off my shelf and shattered all over my carpet and on the back of my leather briefcase.

I've already used nail polish remover and then rubbing alcohol. It is a lot better, but still not gone. Is there any other product I can use?

When in doubt, use vinegar.

You have *phenomenal* bad luck - i've never seen a nail polish bottle shatter - they're so little and thick, they've only ever bounced when my daughter has dropped one (on hardwood, too - how in hell did one break on *carpet*??).

I do not know how it happened. And it was my favorite color too.

I managed to break one too, I think on hardwood. It was at my job too (as a home health aide.) Generally they are tough though.

Really bad luck. I've never seen one break either. I knocked a necklace off a shelf that was about two feet high onto carpet and it shattered and I just stared at it going "what. how."

I used to look after a lady who insisted on painting her own nails, and I usually found hairspray got the worst of it out. They were faux leather sofas though, not sure how it would react with leather or carpet. Maybe try it on a hidden/out-of-the-way area first just in case. Nail polish stains are awful. :(

You beat me to it. I was going to say, whatever you try, try it on a small area first. And maybe wait a few hours to see if there are any ill effects that take time to develop, too.

Cat sometimes won't eat

(Anonymous) 2018-03-26 11:34 pm (UTC)(link)
I don't mean that she doesn't have an appetite. I mean that I have three brands of dry food for her. Often she'll decide "I don't want to eat it" and won't, instead begging in her own cat way for food all over again. (Rubbing her head against the chair, circling her dishes, if you're a cat owner you know all of it.)

Any ideas? I just left her once, but my roommate said she spent all day screeching for some reason. As soon as I came home from work and gave my screeching cat the other food, she was fine. So apparently it doesn't always work, unless that was just a coincidence and something else was up.

When is the last time she was at the vet? Is she having any problems going to the litter box?

Re: Cat sometimes won't eat

(Anonymous) 2018-03-26 11:45 pm (UTC)(link)
AYRT - Oh, she's fine with the litter, vet says she's all good. She's healthy, she's just excessively picky, although how picky seems to go on and off. Sometimes she'll be fine, she'll stare at me but realize after a few minutes that it's the food she's getting, other times it'll be like tonight, where I came home and she was STILL unhappy.

Does she eat wet food at all?

Re: Cat sometimes won't eat

(Anonymous) 2018-03-27 12:07 am (UTC)(link)
AYRT - Yeah, but sometimes she decides not to eat that either. She'll love the flavor one day, hate it another time.

Sounds like she's just picky. What sort of food are you giving? Is it the cheaper 'filler' kind of food, or something a bit more meat-based? Does she seem to like the 'filler' or 'meat' food better?

If she'll eat eventually, or eat most of the time, and you offer her food she's eaten in the past, I wouldn't worry too much about it, unless she drops some serious weight. Just make sure her water is fresh and accessible and away from the food, and grin and bear the begging.

If she'll let you, try petting her while she eats. This worked for me when my cat, William, was a kitten with an ear infection and a poor appetite. He loves it, to the point that sometimes he cries for me to get up in the morning and pet him while he eats his breakfast.

Has anyone else ever gone from basically having no social life to having a core group of friends? I did, and it's great, but sometimes I realize I have no idea how one does this... friend group thing. The only ones I've been in IRL was a middle school clique (which ended as well as can be expected for a trio of middle schoolers) and online social groups, which also didn't always end well, TBH. <--- Actually, that worries me a bit, but I was also younger when I was in these fandom groups, and also, I think online friend groups can be a bit harder to maintain. (For one thing, it's so hard to prioritize. You can't really say "I can't do such and such, I have to meet Becky and Sam in the chatroom" the way you can "I can't do such and such, I have to meet Becky and Sam for lunch.")

Not really looking for advice, just wondering if that's happened for anyone else.

"Sorry, I have a prior commitment."
If they ask what, "I promised to do a thing with some friends."
If they ask what after that, then they're being nosy.

Re: Question Thread

(Anonymous) 2018-03-27 12:12 am (UTC)(link)
AYRT - Yeah, but sometimes it's not that simple. For instance, my friends with spouses would have last minute plans they'd put together when they got home, so they couldn't chat. Or with me, when I was still living at home, if I was in the middle of a serious conversation and one of my parents wanted to talk, I had to leave the conversation.

Re: Question Thread

Yeah. What happened was I either became good friends with a far more extroverted person who attracted a group of friends, or I joined some club or group and hanging out together for club reasons led to hanging out together for purely social reasons. These were entirely accidents on my part and I've never been able to make it happen on purpose (I've been trying for years at this point).

Re: Question Thread

I had a weird moment the other day when I had this thought that I have never intentionally made a single friend or tried to make a person be my friend. Ever.

On the one hand, I totally get why my mother was so pushy about trying to set me up with her friend's kids. I completely lack the impulse to attach to people. Am I broken?

On the other hand, how the fuck did I accidentally make this many friends? I am not even a little bit sure about how to be a friend, but I have all these people who like me for some reason? I have about six entirely unrelated social groupings of people. How. The. Fuck.

I usually don't even discover that I've made another one until it's been a couple of years and they're still there.

I think it's pretty normal for friendship to be a gradual process. In my experience people don't generally consciously court friends like you'd court a romantic partner, nor do they feel the need to announce the instant they cross the threshold into friendship á la Step Brothers.
