[Chronicles of Narnia]

I didn't know what it was either the first time I heard/read about it.

But I don't think I thought turkey. I somehow connected it to hookahs. I don't know how that happened.

This is exactly the kind of secret I needed today!

I thought it was like a warm pastry. Also thought it was big, which always confused me how he was supposedly eating so much.

I think I thought the same thing. Like dumplings or something.

My parents read that book to me chapter-by-chapter as a bedtime story and they told me it was a type of candy. I don't remember if I had anything particular in mind for what kind of candy it might be, I can only remember watching the BBC version and seeing Edmund eating what looked like chewy cubes.

Same here, anon. Same here. Until recently I thought of googling it and it turns out they where sweets.

we ended up deciding it was this mix of cubed potatoes, hamburger and onions served nice and warm. Even as a kid I knew that wasn't right but I personally really liked that meal so I could understand someone wanting to scarf it down, particularly if they were really cold. Finding out it was candy, which makes more sense, is still a let down, even all these years later that I've known. I mean, I get he's a kid and candy and WWII sugar rationing and all but dang - it was COLD! As a kid I would have been asking for something warm, not gelatin cubes.

I did at least guess that it was something small and sweet (possibly just because I have vague memories of seeing an animated version before actually reading it,) but in my head that translated to something more like fudge or nougat.

I was NOT prepared for awful little jelly cubes when I finally got to try it.
