I'm not sure if it would be considered policing, but I once got a comment on a fic (a Sherlock/John/Lestrade threesome) berating me for adding Lestrade to the Johnlock when he so clearly belongs with Mycroft. With the way it was written, I'm like 90% sure this person believed that Mycroft/Lestrade was some sort of unbreakable rule in the Sherlock fandom.

It really does seem like an unbreakable rule, and I've never been able to figure it out. I get pairing the spares, but why so much fic shipping two people who don't even interact at all for the first 2 seasons and one of them is, shall we say, not that hot?
