Alternately, we're expected to know which boring, derivative, and visually indistinguishable cast from some minor genre work we're expected to discuss.

Honestly, I doubt that the people who constantly complain about vague secrets ~not generating enough discussion~ care much about all the tragically vague secrets that are about obscure books or TV shows. I think that mostly they just don't want to miss out on any secrets that are about the wanky fandom du jour and miss an opportunity to yell about Reylo or whatever for fifty comments.

But it's not Reylo! It's...something else...uh, secrit.

On the other hand, if you post something that looks kinda cool but refuse to identify it, how am I supposed to check it out?

(Anonymous) 2018-03-30 01:26 am (UTC)(link)
Well, I think that's a you problem unless the secret maker thinks you're "supposed to" check it out to please them, like if their secret is that they're bitter that no one writes fic for their favorite movie.

Ask politely? I've asked politely when I saw an interesting secret and the OP was kind enough to tell me. Probably because I wasn't rude or entitled about it.

Exactly. There are plenty of secrets about small, obscure fandoms or obscure actors, etc. They don't get many replies, and I very much doubt all the complainers in this thread participate so it's hilarious they want to act like oh nooooooo we're missing out on their brilliant contributions by being vague!

You're right! The fewer opportunities for discussion we have, the better. In fact, you and the other vague secret are too specific. Any more information than a few MS Paint scribbles and a question mark is pandering to those silly commenters and their inane desires to talk about fandoms on fandom secrets.
