It's honestly kind of bonkers that we don't get taught this.

(Anonymous) 2018-04-04 01:39 am (UTC)(link)By the time I started school my parents had already taught me how to read and write, add and subtract, and even multiplication. I still didn't argue when teachers went over all of that from the beginning because not all of the children knew how to do it yet.

(Anonymous) 2018-04-04 03:28 am (UTC)(link)In an ideal world everyone should be taught according to their level and capacity, and I'm glad your parents found you a school that did that for you, but it isn't always feasible.
What's the point of having to go to class to learn things you already know? Nothing. There's no point other than complying with compulsory education laws. But sometimes there is no other option.
It's the same as when a student transfers schools and gets lessons on something they already learned before. They don't get to skip class until the teacher reaches some new material.
Re: What is something that should be taught in all schools?
(Anonymous) 2018-04-04 07:53 pm (UTC)(link)I was very fortunate for my early school years. The private school I went to was very small and let every child work at their own pace for most lessons. I still remember racing through the match book then getting to do special projects after. Among other things.
And yeah, I know not every school can do that. We moved and the school I went to next was a more standard school and I was bored to tears. I constantly pretended I was sick so I could stay home and read and I still aced my classes. My parents asked if I wanted to go to a private school again, but I was shy and had friends and didn't want to start over so I refused. Looking back on it now I wish they had forced me to switch schools, because school did me no favors and made me hate everything such that I'm still aimless post college.
