It just irks me when they look more like monsters than wolves, and when transforming is a choice.

The latter is apparently a really modern addition though.

SA - And by modern venture, I mean the interpretation of werewolves = cursed, not just shifters. So works that adhere to the shifter interpretation are actually going by tradition. I just don't like it as much.

Nah, pre-20th C werewolf lore is all kinds of weird. Some curses, some diabolical deals, whatever. I think Theiss's 'werewolves go down to hell and fight witches so the crops will grow' is my favourite.

Ehhhh there's really no one true werewolf mythos

(Anonymous) 2018-04-05 12:55 am (UTC)(link)
I read that as "Watermelons" not Werelions.

What would a werelion look like.

(Anonymous) 2018-04-05 12:57 am (UTC)(link)
Like a blonde werewolf with a mane?

(Anonymous) 2018-04-05 02:16 am (UTC)(link)
Leomon from Digimon, probably. Or a Khajit.
osidiano: A chibi Metroid (smug)

Oh, Leomon <3

Vincent from Beauty and the Beast maybe?

(Anonymous) 2018-04-05 05:09 am (UTC)(link)
It would really suck to be cursed to transform into a watermelon under the light of the full moon.

lmao

The imagery induced a guffaw

Honestly I want more things like Werelions. Not just werewolves. But not the kind that shift by choice or are only part lion and show up in crappy romance novels. I want ones like werewolves that are forced to transform at certain times and really become the animal.

Buffy werewolves get your stamp of approval. :)
nightscale: Starbolt (Marvel: Captain America)

It may not be accurate to wolves at all but it's cool as fuck so I'll have all the roaring werewolves plz.

Yes, and they are also people.

(Anonymous) 2018-04-05 01:34 am (UTC)(link)
And a roar is something that, as a person, I think of as a noise used to cow or frighten. So if I had the vocal range to both howl and growl, I would be inclined think I could roar, too, and I might do it. When a gorilla does it, it's intimidating and that's what I would be going for.

Re: Yes, and they are also people.

(Anonymous) 2018-04-05 08:37 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah, I was just thinking, "They're also not wolves." There's no telling what a fictional creature would do.

(Anonymous) 2018-04-05 12:29 pm (UTC)(link)
They aren't wolves, either.

They're the wolfish-looking transformation monster of an ape species.

Maybe they would roar. Apes roar.

I had a pretty big and lengthy werewolf phase and I can't say this ever bothered me. What DOES bother me is when the idiots in charge of the film think that a canine's knees bend backwards, and show the human's knees breaking during the transformation. Come on people, it's basic phylogeny. I learned this shit in grade school. All the limbs of a human are analogous to a wolf, just different lengths. In this case, a wolf's "feet" are much longer than ours, and they walk on their toes. Their knees aren't fucking broken.
