I agree with you, and I think this is a pretty common opinion. Her friends and boyfriend were assholes.

Yeah, that scene was very annoying. They were all over the goodies she brought back for them, and then they pulled that stunt with her phone.

I feel like a lot of films pull stuff like this and I find it really annoying. It's kind of pushing the idea that you have to just go along with what everyone else wants to do (unless it's a storyline about blatantly harmful group behaviors) even if it's damaging to you, otherwise you're not being a good sport and if you're a party pooper you're the worst and most selfish friend evar.

This is what threw me off from live-action shows when I was a kid. It just seemed too mean.

I've never seen this movie, but that sounds like such an immature thing to do

I love the movie but hate the conclusion. She never becomes an asshole who chooses work over friends. She works her ass off to follow her dreams and makes practically no moral mistakes. The fact that her friends couldn't accept that and her boyfriend was a selfish asshole who wanted to be waited upon by her was unacceptable. Seriously ruins an otherwise fantastic film.

I don't think it annoyed me that much when I first saw it because I was in high school.

They're adults though, and have probably all gone through stressful periods with work and dealing with everyone having changing schedules and priorities.

Ugh. The boyfriend. Don't get me started. Negative comments about her clothes? Complaining that she's not around when it's convenient for him to see her? Ugh. I remember him being really judgy about her career change too. Sometimes you end up not doing the exact thing you love because you need to pay rent, ya dickhead.

Still one of the most frustrating scenes I can easily list. Her boyfriend was a dick the entire time too

[personal profile] mrs_don_draper 2018-04-08 12:39 am (UTC)(link)
Stealing her phone was wrong, but her friends and boyfriend were 100% right about her.

(Anonymous) 2018-04-08 01:43 am (UTC)(link)
what? How were they right? They were obsessed with her and obstructed her every inch of the way when she was trying to put in one year at a terrible job so she could pursue her dream job.

(Anonymous) 2018-04-08 12:55 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah, I didn't like her friends.

If they were worried about Andy's health or something, they should have said that rather than giving her a hard time for having a life that no longer meshed well with theirs, now that they were out of college and had different careers with different schedules.

I don't remember much about this movie but I do agree what they did was pretty shitty behavior. I've had bosses like her boss and Jesus Christ, she would've gotten her jimmies in a twist if I didn't answer.

i seriously hate this movie. this didn't have to do with why when i first saw it but yeah, her friends/boyfriend were assholes.
