You realize that the amount of melanin in your skin has a direct tie to how close you are to the equator because it's a natural protection against UV light, right? The Saamis are traditionally pretty damn pale, and assuming that all "indigenous people" are dark-skinned is a bit... problematic.

Well, it's more to do with the amount of UV light you get - some Arctic people (though not Saami) are relatively dark to protect them from UV light bouncing off snow.
