Ok I just want to say I’m not even defining male in any way here. They don’t have to be Cis, they don’t have to be het and they don’t have to be human and it doesn’t even have to be in the context of romance. You can be sexist to someone you are not sexually or romantically attracted to. You can be an ass to people without good reason when you aren’t interested in them.

The point was, it got me thinking how a LOT of characters we are supposed to root for are at least on some level a jerk/how much casual sexism there is involving these characters to the point that I cannot think of a character off the top of my head that hasn’t at some point been a jerk when it’s uncalled for or been casually sexist or both at the same time. And yet, the characters that I can think of off the top of my head, are usually the most popular/the ones the writers want us to root for.

ETA: and as someone who was a child, had childhood siblings, had childhood friends and is currently in bed after spending the day trying to get two children to play nicely, I’m casting my vote for kids can be jerks too and they don’t care who knows it.
