If you separate the art from the artist, then it wouldn't matter if he was a mass-murdering kitten eater, because his kitten-eating would still be separate from his art. On the other hand, if there are some things where you can no longer separate the art from the artist, then at that point we're just arguing over where you draw the line.
And I can completely understand why some people might draw the line here. Even if you don't.
