House is now on Amazon Prime

(Anonymous) 2018-04-11 01:09 am (UTC)(link)
also Eureka and Friday Night Lights

I mostly just wanted to let everyone know, but now it got me thinking: where did all the House-type fandoms go? Do TV fandoms for non-CW shows even really exist these days?

Come nominate a movie! The theme is Neo-versions of old genres, like neo-noir, neo-westerns but NOT remakes or reboots.

What long-running shows do you like? It doesn't have to be perfect all the way through but you overall enjoyed it the whole time or are still happy to watch it if it's still on the air.

Buffy. Criminal Minds. Castle. Stargate: SG1. So You Think You Can Dance (only season I've skipped is the one with kids). Top Chef. Project Runway.

It's easier to like Criminal Minds if I stay away from paying too much attention to character arcs. Otherwise it'd be harder to pop in and out.

I can watch an episode of The Simpsons, Law and Order (original or SVU), or M*A*S*H any time. Good thing those shows are always on!

The Simpsons, I'm not someone who needs to stay on top of it but I like putting the episodes on when I catch them.

For no longer running ones: Frasier, it had it's dips but overall I loved it from the beginning to the very end.

Red Dwarf - 12 seasons over the past 30 years. Even if the newer episodes aren't as great as the original run I just love that new episodes with the original cast and crew are still being made. :D

Any media you're kind of dreading?

Like an upcoming sequel, episode, or whatever?

Westworld Season 2. Love the show but the fandom is a bit much. And they've hyped themselves up far too much.

I would say Solo but I'm pretty detached to the point I'll just be pleasantly surprised if it's not bad. It's still angering to have to sit through Ehrenreich's possibly bad - and Clarke's definitely bad - acting for the fun of a Star Wars movie.

Every upcoming and future Star Wars movie. This fandom is so frustrating. I love Star Wars. It is my second favorite thing after Tolkien. But I can't stand the fandom. And the fandom ruins my enjoyment with all the bickering.

Infinity War cause I'm 99.9% sure Loki's gonna die and 95% sure it's gonna be in like the first 10 minutes of the movie. I'm just going to send the rest of the movie pissed waiting for a bunch of other characters I love to die.

The Switch Pokemon game. Most of the rumored leaks are pointing towards another Kanto remake/reboot with the possibility of no new Pokemon.

I'm cautiously looking forward to Fear The Walking Dead. The promos make season 4 look pretty good, and Morgan is a plus. Some reviews I've read have surprisingly said Fear has eclipsed TWD in quality which while I very much still enjoy the mothership serious, rampant Fear bashing is so common that any good comment makes me happy for it. I'm interested to see how things have changed in the season 3-4 time jump too.

What I'm dreading is the fan reaction -- I feel like more of the fandom was AGAINST than for the Fear/TWD crossover. But I'm also still upset that Ofelia was literally Beth'ed. Her death to me was like Glenn was for a lot of the TWD fandom. And it looks like Daniel really has been written out of the show too so there goes all the Salazar family. I like the remaining cast all right enough and maybe a newbie will strike my fancy, but Ofelia was my girl and even though I had a hunch early on she'd die for Daniel angst it still sucked. And if he's gone it just feels like, what's the point?

Please convince me to reward myself, FS

(Anonymous) 2018-04-11 02:05 am (UTC)(link)
So today I made a couple appointments (estate lawyer, tax guy) I’ve been dreading and procrastinating on, that will be expensive and heavy on the paperwork.

I told myself that if I finally did it, I’d buy myself something on my wishlist as a reward. But now when I think about spending money on fun stuff I feel guilty, because paying the lawyer for an hour will eat an entire paycheck, and the receptionist wouldn’t tell me how long it will take. Paying the tax guy will probably be less, but I’m gonna owe late filing fees too.

But I’m not going to go broke, I have savings. My anxiety is through the roof because I hate phone calls and paperwork being an adult, and the lawyer has only two reviews, both one star. But I want to buy myself a treat for getting this ball rolling anyway. How do I make the voice telling me if I buy gardening supplies or new boots or anything but instant ramen as a reward, I’m a wasteful idiot who will die destitute, shut the fuck up?

Share some that have a decent fanfic base (more than 2000 fics). Anything goes.
