I hate when people act that way. Doing things like hoarding "good" URLs not because they just like the character that much but because they think no one else deserves to have them. I have no idea why they decide that iconic or popular characters like Buffy are their favorites when they so clearly can't stand the idea that someone might like the character as much as they do.

I've had a similar experience, OP. Was all excited to get in and join a game I was super hyped about, but then I find out people were making fun of me because of my username (apparently it seems like a furry thing). Ah, good times.

People can have similar tastes as you, but still be shitty people when there's an audience of others to entertain. It's the ol' Greater Internet Fuckwad Theory in practice.
