Why? Not OP, but as someone who has fic up on AO3, I'd rather have a kudos than nothing.

To me, kudos it's like this: Imagine doing a whole song and dance routine (the fic) for someone and rather than standing and clapping at the end (giving a comment) someone instead gives a thumbs up and runs out of the theater (kudos).

No, kudos is like clapping, comments are like writing a review or giving an award. It's the equivalent of expressing you like it, you just don't have(or know) what to say. I mean, they don't even have to give a kudos.

No one "has" to do anything. I was merely telling you why I, personally, don't like them. If you like them, that's fine. I just think they're pointless.

You've never searched with them?

If you don't like them, that's fine. I do. In fact sometimes I like them a little more than comments (I like comments, but I always feel obliged to answer them). For me, they tell me that people read and liked what they read. That's valuable to me as both a writer and a reader.

I dislike kudos a lot. And yes, I do sometimes search with them. Right now - depending on the fandom of course - sorting by kudos and then starting with the last pages gets me the best results, because the most kudos'ed fics are often garbage.

It is. Much in the way that finding a penny on the ground is a positive thing... but not as positive or exciting as finding a twenty dollar bill.

How dare you not appreciate pennies?! Didn't you know that pennies are just as good as twenty dollar bills!?!? Better, even!!! I bet you'd be complaining if you got a crumpled twenty dollar bill!!! At least you don't have to worry about that with pennies!!!! People probably would leave more twenty dollar bills if people who found money on the ground didn't complain so much about torn or crumpled twenty dollar bills!111 And who says you even deserve pennies!?!? People who find money on the ground are so entitled!!!
