I don't see many (if any) imagines on AO3 so I'm gonna guess that you are talking about Tumblr. And if you are talking about Tumblr, why the hell are you looking for longfic there?

Tumblr's a different site with a different audience that has different attention spans and different goals. In an area where microcontent and bite-sized easily digestible posts are the norm, are you really surprised that imagines are taking off there?
