WHAT IS THAT LARGE MAN DOING TO THOSE UNCONSCIOUS PEOPLE?

(Anonymous) 2018-04-13 12:05 am (UTC)(link)
I think he's a ball-jointed doll collector about to take some pictures of his new custom dolls so he can brag online about how much they cost.

DA

IIRC he's their creator in the lore, so that might be closer than you think

Those are Dwarves and I believe he is creating them as a race in the pic

He appears to be contemplating deeply about how big to make their penises

That is very important to get right.

Sadly, a few appear to have been somewhat shortchanged.

Tolkien has nothing against creation. His point is viewing yourself as a creator, meaning a god in your own right. That's what's not okay in his worldview. He says "Individual Elves might be seduced to a kind of minor 'Melkorism': desiring to be their own masters in Arda, and to have things their own way, leading in extreme cases to rebellion against the tutelage of the Valar." Further, "Melkor was not just a local Evil on Earth . . . His attempt to dominate the structure of Ea, and of Arda in particular, and alter the designs of Eru (which governed all the operations of the faithful Valar), had introduced evil, or a tendency to aberration from the design, into all the physical matter of Arda."

Creation is great. Creation is reflecting Eru. But trying to subvert God is bad. That was Tolkien's point.

Doesn't mean I have to agree him or interpret his works the way he wants me to.

Well, obviously. But the secret said that Tolkien thought a creative urge was bad, and that's just not true.
