I wish they had either gone full ethereal or full Walking Dead (as you call it). Both ends of the spectrum can be spooky but IMO it was kind of caught between in an awkward and not scary or even really visually pleasing way.

That's funny, OP! The ghosts in Crimson Peak were my favorite part. However, I can see where you're coming from, too.

I didn't mind them but whoever approved all the advertising and TV spots really blew the load by featuring basically every ghost scene. I think only the last one with the baby and spoiler!ghost knife wound didn't appear. Even one of the ghosts from the end was in the trailer and it wasn't blink and you'll miss it either!

Anyone who knows the genre wasn't entirely surprised by anything but it still ruined any sense of dread knowing oh...this is a TV spot scene so I already know what this ghost looks like.
