The canon hasn't gone anywhere. It exists in precisely the same sense and to the same extent that it did previously. Another, separate set of narratives also exists at the same time.

For some reason I just can't see Luke in a relationship. At least not a straight one.

Not into Star Wars (beyond liking the films) enough to know much about the Expanded Universe, but... why not do both? My fandom had "new" canon and I've rejected it.

Mara Jade can still exist in a separate universe. IMHO. From someone not at all into SW, mind you.

I know Mara is beloved by fandon but I did not like her. I'm glad she hasn't come over. If she does come over, I hope it's not connected to Luke. She's a stronger character without him.

My man!
I found her insufferably whiny. Granted I only read The Thrawn Trilogy so they weren't even a couple yet.

Depends on what you read. In one series the writer went to almost extremes to show how un-whiny Mara is, and that got irritating.

I listened to the Thrawn Trilogy in audiobook form. Maybe Marc Thompson is just a bad Mara Jade? That's possible.
She came across as very petulant and stubborn teenager as opposed to Hand of the Emperor with actual trauma.

That could be. I read the Thrawn trilogy years ago and I don't recall much from it, but I don't recall anything bad about her. Though I did notice that's she's quite different in different books.

I only know fandom Mara, and I love her in fics.

I do want Luke to have had a long-term relationship, if only to shoot down the whole attachments things.

Buuuuut I kinda want him to be gay in this canon.

I know it's a secret and all, but man, am I tired of the whining about non-movie characters not appearing in the movies.

(Anonymous) 2018-04-14 06:57 am (UTC)(link)
Ffs, you're ~whining~ yourself.

I find other people's viewpoints interesting.

(Anonymous) 2018-04-14 10:49 am (UTC)(link)
How where they whining?

(Anonymous) 2018-04-14 12:37 pm (UTC)(link)
All complaining is whining. Complaining about complainers is whining. I am whining right now by explaining it. Everything is whining!

(Anonymous) 2018-04-14 05:58 am (UTC)(link)
I love her too.
