I've come to appreciate Aule (and Ulmo) more as I've matured. They are interesting characters, and I can agree that Aule probably still cares for his lost maiar. I still like Ulmo better but I do like the relationship between Aule and his dwarves. I wish more fic would really dive into that, especially from Aule's divine perspective.

I feel the same, especially about Melkor fearing her the most. We don't get as much of her perspective but she is pretty much the most revered Vala among the Elves because they value starlight so much. She hollows the Silmarils. But she's not representative of an emotion/action the way Nienna is with grief or Este is with healing. Is she an intercessor, who is easier to pray to than Manwe? There's just a lot of potential for her, and I'd love to see more of it that delves into why she's queen above all the other Vala.

If the show is bad, it's probably bad because it's a bad show, rather than being bad because it's Not Star Trek or because it's "for the Instagram generation". That is bad analysis. I'm tired of this. It's bad analysis in general and it also misreads a lot of existing Trek. Star Trek actually is highly flexible and can be and do a lot of different things - Wrath of Khan is very different from The Trouble With Tribbles, which is very different from In The Pale Moonlight, which is very different from The Measure Of A Man, which is very different from How Much For Just The Planet. But you could justly call any of those things Star Trek.

And the same is true of the reboot films, by the way. Only one of them is bad, and it's because it's a bad movie, not because it betrays the eternal flame of Star Trek. At least not any more than Nemesis does.

I like Maedhros and Maglor but I am uncomfortable with the idea that his suffering in any way justifies (however small) the hurt he causes other. PTSD does not excuse murder. I judge him less harshly than his brothers because he has regrets and he tries to refrain from evil for a while. He's not gungho about it. But he does participate in it and that's a choice he made. I won't excuse that.
