I'm an introvert but I don't like 90% of the internet posts purporting to "explain" being an introvert. They act like it's some kind of bizarre thing that no one's ever heard of even though a very large percentage of the population are introverts. They also act like all introverts ever want to do is sit around and read and all extroverts want to do is party. I'm seeing less of it than I did a year or two ago but sometimes I wish people would just drop those labels entirely.

Yeah. I think it's one of those things that speak to nearly everyone, so tons of people relate...and unfortunately, new people discover it all the time so it's never going to die. :-/

This is how my SO whose an introvert feels. They haaaaaaaate those and think it’s some of the most biased, hypocritical, infantalizing, and stupid posts ever.

I as an extrovert just quietly judge the posters or rebloggers from afar lol.

I’m an introvert, but the amount of almost perverse pride in not so much being an introvert as being a willing shut-in implied by a lot of those posts make me wince. Like, yes, I enjoy books and rainy days with a cat on my lap and so on, but those things don’t make me an introvert. Needing alone time to recharge makes me an introvert. If I don’t leave the house or interact with anyone at all for a couple days, it’s probably because I’m feeling sick.

I'm an introvert and I have a hard time identifying with those posts. Maybe it's because by the time they were a thing, I was an adult with my own apartment, car, and money and therefore less likely to be stuck in social situations I found mentally taxing but am unable to leave. Maybe it's because I've had to deal with enough situations where I've had to *act* like I want to reach out to people and make cold calls or knock on doors or talk to random strangers or stand up in front of an audience that I've learned to cope with it because I understand I gain things by it and it isn't that horrible an experience after all. Maybe it's because I'm not so extreme an introvert that I never want to have any social interactions at all, I just like to have plenty of time to myself.
