(Anonymous) 2018-04-21 07:58 pm (UTC)(link)Like, those tags are both a really small percentage of the overall fics within the fandom, right? So it seems more likely that it's a (relatively meaningless) fluctuation in which fans happen to decide to use that tag, rather than a full indication of what kinds of fics exist in general.

(Anonymous) 2018-04-21 08:18 pm (UTC)(link)First of all, I would suspect (although I'm not going to actually look it up) that the numbers we're talking about here are at least an order of magnitude lower than the percentages you listed here.
Second, those two statistics aren't the same at all. Frequency of asexuality or homosexuality is what you have in your example. But the stats in the secret aren't that. The stats in the secret tell us about one specific activity that some subset of fans do. We don't know how representative or common that one specific activity is, and that's especially true because the sample size is so miniscule compared to the overall fandoms. It's possible that, like, people on Team Steve just don't use that specific tag for some random reason. And it's also possible that most people who are stans for either side just don't use the tag at all. It's just really hard to extrapolate.
To be clear I have no dog in this fight, I don't know or care which fandom is worse, or whether either fandom is worse, I'm just talking.

(Anonymous) 2018-04-22 01:43 am (UTC)(link)3 gay people per 1000?

(Anonymous) 2018-04-22 01:57 am (UTC)(link)What I meant was that the prevalence of fics tagged with the tags in the OP, in comparison to the total number of fics with Steve or Tony in them, was an order of magnitude (or several) below the prevalence of gay people in society.
