It's weird how much BDSM fic comes across as though the person writing isn't actually like... into BDSM at all

I don't mean that they're not into BDSM subculture; I mean that it seems like they don't really find it a turnon

I think a lot of it is people who're into rape, but don't want to be perceived as writing rape porn. So they write BDSM porn that comes out a lot more like rape porn.

That's not quite what I'm talking about - I mean, I think that does happen, but those people are at least turned on by the psuedo-rape part.

I'm talking about stuff more on the fluffy-fuzzy end of things, really.

I’m not sure what you’re talking about. Humiliation kink is fluffy? Or are you talking about something else that appears in fluffy BDSM?

Yeah, sorry, I'm not entirely being clear

I'm talking about the general idea of people including BDSM elements that they're not actually turned on by in their fics. I guess it's just that I notice it more on the fluffy side.

I think you could say the same for most subgenres of smut fic, though. Like, there's a specific formula that fandoms as a whole tend to follow with sex, and if you're not good at writing it, it just comes off as, well, formulaic, I guess. Like the BDSM version of the old "one finger, two fingers, three fingers, cock" cliche.
