I'm in the middle of playing it right now and I've gotten to a point where I have to kind of turn my brain off for Ni No Kuni II. I think this game is charming and sweet and adorable and holy shit I love doing the sidequests to recruit new members to Evermore, but an entire story where a young king wants to ally with the rest of the nation so the whole world can be at peace and is super-duper optimistic that it will 100% work (and so far from what I am playing, it is) is so impossible and naive that it kind of breaks the immersion for me a bit.

At the same time, I appreciate that this idealistic and colorful game exists among the sea of cynical/depressing gritty video games (not that I don't enjoy the latter, it's just a bit too much sometimes.) Ni No Kuni II can put a smile on my face after a trying day and that's worth it.
