cosplay. not merch! hear me out:

when I see a simple street-clothes level costume on a character I love, maybe in a cover art, maybe from a promo, who knows...I have to have it. So I make it. some of these I never even wear (to cons in full cosplay) but I have it, I have entire collections of character wardrobes. it's as quick sometimes as painting a t-shirt, or as complicated as making a tailored blazer. from my 5 favorite characters right now, I have...a combined 40 outfits.

thank god for Michaels $2 t-shirt sales, really.

That is really cool and also a really awesome skillset to have. I can sew, but even after years of it I’m not great, and I can’t tailor for shit. I do have some closet cosplay stuff that I bought, but definitely not 40 outfits worth.

I will admit I've labored a long time to hone it so that it's become a useful enough skill. the reward I guess is getting to make a wardrobe of cute raglan tops and sexy blazers and such. I wear a lot of it out and no one recognizes it as character clothing.
