Have you seen the musical (on film or live) or just listened to the music?

Rent and Hedwig and the Angry Inch. Seen them both live multiple times.

I probably wouldn't consider something a favorite if I'd only listened to the music and hadn't actually seen it.

Also, Phantom of the Opera but I've only seen the movie from the 00s.

Huh, I guess I’m glad someone liked the 2004 Phantom film. The Phantom of the Opera is my favorite musical, but I doubt it would’ve been if my first exposure had involved Gerard Butler and Emmy Rossum. Patrick Wilson wasn’t bad. The 25th Anniversary filmed version still wasn’t stellar, but Ramin Karimloo and Sierra Boggess did a decent job. Not a fan of Hadley Fraser, though.

I was like...12 and have not seen it in since I was probably 15. So if the singing is awful, I would have never noticed.

Little Shop of Horrors. Seen it in film form (both the theatrically released and Director's Cut versions). Also Jesus Christ Superstar, which I've seen a couple versions of (the 1973 movie is my least favourite of the versions I know).

Camelot, My Fair Lady, Chicago, Sweeny Todd, Mame.

Little Shop -- live > film, but I like the film too.

And Singin' In the Rain just makes me happy.

Evita. I saw it live three times and I used to collect soundtracks in different languages. (They were on vinyl though and are long gone.)

I didn't actually see the film.

It's been years since I actually listened to it though.

I've seen it live and loved it but I won't go see the film because I really dislike Madonna.

I'm not terribly fond of her either. I think I had enough of her in the '80s.

even if I liked her style of singing she can't act.

Tanz der Vampire and Starlight Express, ATM. Seen all of them live. Tanz I've seen no less than thrice.

I think there might be a film version or two? But it's one of those musicals that has to be seen live

Wicked (saw it on stage), CATS, Moulin Rouge, The Boy from Oz.

Do Disney films count? :P

Edit to add: Phantom of the Opera. And yes, I very much enjoy the 2004 film. XP
