I would argue that having wacky, out-there space adventures has historically not been a strong commercial proposition

(Anonymous) 2018-04-23 11:29 pm (UTC)(link)
But Ragnarok made a shit ton of money.

(Anonymous) 2018-04-23 11:30 pm (UTC)(link)
Outlier, small sample size, etc, etc, etc

It's risky

(Anonymous) 2018-04-23 11:31 pm (UTC)(link)
It really isn't risky for Marvel.

Inhumans still crashed and burned

(Anonymous) 2018-04-23 11:42 pm (UTC)(link)
Inhumans was part of the TV division. Completely separate people in charge.

(Anonymous) 2018-04-24 12:17 am (UTC)(link)
And it was weakly promoted, and just awful.

(Anonymous) 2018-04-24 05:12 am (UTC)(link)
Inhumans was fucking awful and had laughable production values. The only things it had going for it were a) a few committed actors (Black Bolt and Auran in particular) and b) the beautiful Hawaiian setting.

nayrt

Yeah, I stuck out Inhumans because...I don't know. Mostly because it had these little flashes of things that looked cool (and also I live on Oahu so I had fun picking out places I recognized) but so much was just fucking ridiculous.

And not like regular comic-book-turned-tv ridiculousness. Just. Way beyond that. Like worse than first season Agents of Shield bad. (which grew on me over time it must be said)

(Anonymous) 2018-04-23 11:34 pm (UTC)(link)
Right? I mean, just look at Guardians of the Galaxy, and that featured less familiar characters than the already popular Thor, Loki and Bruce.

Doctor Strange, FRIGGIN' ANT-MAN!

(Anonymous) 2018-04-24 12:21 am (UTC)(link)
That's arguable, but it doesn't look like OP is claiming it'd be successful, just that it's something they'd like to see.

I would like up for tickets right behind you!

Yes. This was basically the GotG sequel I wanted, and I'd be happy if that was all the MCU was for the rest of forever.

(Anonymous) 2018-04-24 12:25 am (UTC)(link)
With all narratives by Michael Pena.

(Anonymous) 2018-04-24 01:08 am (UTC)(link)
Agreed. Tired if watching people fight. I want hijinks!

Same.

Same. I'm not interested in Infinity War at all but I'd totally watch a series of movies similar to Ragnarok.
