What do you think he was/is trying to gain by coming out???

[personal profile] thewakokid 2018-04-25 11:07 pm (UTC)(link)
Maybe there's about to be a MeToo scandel and he's trying to Spacey it?

[personal profile] mrs_don_draper 2018-04-25 11:08 pm (UTC)(link)
Idk what you mean

Kevin Spacey? Tried to fuck a child actor? Delt with the allegations by telling everyone he's decided to live as a gay man?

[personal profile] mrs_don_draper 2018-04-25 11:12 pm (UTC)(link)
What an awful thing to imply about an actor coming out.

(Anonymous) 2018-04-25 11:13 pm (UTC)(link)
It was a joke. And LITERALLY what Kevin Spacey did.

[personal profile] mrs_don_draper 2018-04-25 11:15 pm (UTC)(link)
It's not funny. And I know that's what Spacey did.

(Anonymous) 2018-04-25 11:26 pm (UTC)(link)
I found it funny.

[personal profile] mrs_don_draper 2018-04-25 11:27 pm (UTC)(link)
Okay?
thewakokid: (Default)

[personal profile] thewakokid 2018-04-25 11:28 pm (UTC)(link)
Well, De gustibus non est disputandum and all that. I thought it was very funny.

[personal profile] mrs_don_draper 2018-04-25 11:30 pm (UTC)(link)
Gold star for you then, I guess.

[personal profile] thewakokid 2018-04-25 11:32 pm (UTC)(link)
Are you fucking with me or am I actually getting a gold star? I would really like a gold star, actually.

Other than that the point is whenever you say "That's not funny" you will always be met with someone disagreeing ith you. Well, Almost always. I forgot about Amy Schumer, but for the most part, someone somewhere will find almost anything funny

lol @ Amy Schumer comment

(Anonymous) 2018-04-25 11:30 pm (UTC)(link)
you literally walked right into the obvious connection by evidently not knowing about the extremely infamous PR stunt another famous actor's coming out was, and now you choose to be offended? lol

[personal profile] mrs_don_draper 2018-04-25 11:32 pm (UTC)(link)
I understood that he meant Kevin Spacey. I was clarifying if he meant what I thought he meant. And unfortunately he did. Idk why I'm not allowed to dislike a comment someone made. It's not that deep.

(Anonymous) 2018-04-25 11:34 pm (UTC)(link)
You are. And other people are allowed to reply to you.

I'm not sure that Wako was implying it was true, but rather suggesting it as a hypothetical reason why someone might come out for PR purposes (because that's the reason Spacey himself came out)
thewakokid: (Default)

[personal profile] thewakokid 2018-04-25 11:30 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah, more or less. I don't really think he's done a #metoo, but if you're looking for a reason why a person my come out as gay for nefarious purposes, you don't get much whackier than the real life case of Mr Spacey.

You're right, it was in bad taste. I offer my sincerest apology for what was deeply inappropriate drunken behaviour. Your reply has encouraged me to address other things about my life and I choose now to live as a gay man.

(Anonymous) 2018-04-25 11:39 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh please, this is clearly just a PR stunt.

(Anonymous) 2018-04-25 11:15 pm (UTC)(link)
Did you really not hear about the enormous Kevin Spacey scandal? It was dominating headlines for a long time, and relatively recently.

[personal profile] cbrachyrhynchos 2018-04-25 11:25 pm (UTC)(link)
The Spacey thing wasn't all that successful.

Sure, I'll grant there's probably a PR thing when he comes out while promoting Angels in America.

Thats cause he didn't get out in front of it. If Ol' Kev had been just a few days earlier with his "I have decided to live as a gay man" he might have gotten away with it. Look at the Bryan Singer accusations. Swept under the rug and framed as "Homophobic attacks".

[personal profile] cbrachyrhynchos 2018-04-26 12:02 am (UTC)(link)
Singer wasn't remotely pretending to be in the closet or private before the scandal, and it came a good few years before #metoo. Also, while Singer has a sketchy reputation, it looks like Spacey has about a dozen harassment cases and sexual assault investigations in two different states.

EDIT: Also, Spacey held a fucking press conference to come out and not-apologize for sexual assault allegations. Pace appears to have been cornered in an interview about his current work.

I'm also on the record that I think Spacey was effectively fired and shipped off to rehab in record time for a case like this because his financial partners knew about the few dozen sexual harassment complaints against Spacey and were covering their own asses.

I mean, Spacey was ultra-pathetic since he did it in order to not actually really apologize and redirect the blame. But I don't think he would've been off the hook if he had come out before the scandal. He would've been lauded for a few days, but I think the outrage would have still been pretty clear.

Though, playing off the victims' accusations at that point as homophobia would have sure been House of Cards-esque.. still, if he were going to deny it, he could have still denied it.
