But engaging in those patterns is a central, fundamental aspect of her character, and starting to grow out of them is a major goal for her character and the show as a whole. That's the fundamental drama of that type of character in that type of show - can the character stop doing self-destructive shit and mature, or is the character doomed to repeat their self-destructive patterns?
It's not that it can't change. It's just that it can't change, like, accidentally. If it's going to change, it's going to be the result of a major event happening for the character and a resolution of a major plot point. To have Jessica Jones just not be self-destructive any more would be an unsatisfying resolution of the core conceit of the show.
