After years of only watching anime I've got into a live action series, but I'm feeling too - scared? possessive? embarrassed? - to check if there is a fandom.
Why?! This was never much of a problem with 2D.

I feel this, OP. I can only ship video game characters it seems. And even then I’m extremely picky. Shipping live action characters just seems weird to me.

I've been the same since forever, tbh. I think it's something about there being live actors involved that makes it feel so weird.

Yeah, I might recognize a voice actor on occasion, but I have trouble viewing live action actors as their character instead of them as a person, especially I've seen them elsewhere. Animation has another degree of separation that makes it more easy for me at least to do embarrassing indulgent things with.

Same.

I can write all sorts of porn about 2D characters and pixels, but live actions canons? Nope. It feels almost like pervy RPF.

+1, for several years I was only into animated and books. Then I started becoming a fan of more live-action movies/shows, but I've never looked too hard for fanfic of any of them because I can't shake the feeling that it's somehow RPF.

For some reason I'm okay with the fanart though, as long as it isn't porn.

This. Almost as if by crushing on the character I am somehow intruding on the actor.

(Also this is my debut secret - and it got posted above the cut! Case, I love you!)

No, no, you have a right to be scared.

If there's any sizable fandom, they tend to be scary.

I was like this when I first started shipping characters from live-action shows, I felt almost weird and invasive about it? Even though it wasn't the actors it was still their faces and younger me just couldn't quite get over it.

It did fade away as I got older though and these days cartoon, live-action? Don't matter anymore, I'll ship what I ship.

I feel that, OP. I tend heavily toward cartoon/anime fandoms myself and don't really ship, or write fic for live action anything. Nothing against it. Just prefer 2D, I think.
