[The Maze Runner, Thomas/Minho]

Is this bad for some reason??

OP

(Anonymous) 2018-04-28 01:42 am (UTC)(link)
Not at all! It's just noncanon, if one goes by the books. :)

(Anonymous) 2018-04-27 11:28 pm (UTC)(link)
Who doesn't?

(Anonymous) 2018-04-27 11:36 pm (UTC)(link)
Can someone who's in the fandom explain if/why this is a bad thing?

OP

It's not! It's just noncanon, if you go by the ships in the books. :)

I like some Minho/Newt/Thomas myself.

(Anonymous) 2018-04-27 11:37 pm (UTC)(link)
But Minho/Thomas has its points.

(Anonymous) 2018-04-27 11:39 pm (UTC)(link)
I was under the impression this isn't exactly a rare ship.

OP

I actually have very little idea about the prevalence or not of ships in The Maze Runner & sequels, since I haven't really checked on AO3!

(Anonymous) 2018-04-28 03:26 am (UTC)(link)
Is this a non-secret?

I've been thinking about watching these movies and now I gotta ask: how does it do on the canon romance front? I like shipping but I'm usually annoyed by forced canon love stories.

Not sure if I can do this without spoilers... But I will give it a try. The movies are way different from the books, so going bookwise, the romance is terribad and yes, forced. Thomas keeps switching between two girls like they were part of some spring coat collection depending on who hurt his feelings at the moment. And despite the fact that the author handled the 1st book so well, 2&3 are just ideas thrown together, but sometimes never going anywhere.

As for the movies: they are way better at handling the plot, the characters and actually make you feel feelings. There were sparks of romance, but it was quickly toned down and then just dropped altogether for the sake of the plot. Preventing not only the infamous triangle, but any kind of relationship between the the protag and the 2 maincharactergirls over the course of the movies. It became more of a "I loved you once. Once. Totally not forgiving for the shit you did, tho." (Movie Brenda is best Brenda)

The director eliminated romance and I risk it, he sneakily focused more on a borderline bromance.

Thank you! I think I'll watch them, then and ignore the books!

I thought "I ship it" was something that got delegated to the NS! bit of the post? Did that change?

Because I don't see why ANY "I ship it" counts as a secret by itself - it can be part of a larger secret, but a simple "I ship it" isn't interesting.
