That's not a thing. And I donm't understand why so many people think it is. I mean, comment count is NOT going to increase your story's visibility unfairly unless you're already getting a truly staggering number of comments and then you replied to every single one.

Most people aren't getting enough comments that replying to them would lead to "cheating" your story's ranking. They're just not.

(and most people don't, I think, search by comment count anyway). Why worry about cheating when there's no prize to win anyway?

It's absolutely a thing that people get judgemental about it. It's not a thing that having more comments benefits the author outside of bragging rights.
