Most authors would kill to get comments on their work, and let me tell you, if I got a slew of comments from people right now that were all "omg so cute" and "i loved this" and "update soon!!!!"s, I would positively shit my pants with complete delight that someone read and liked my work enough to say something to me about it, and I would thank every single one of those commenters. And then there's you with the cast iron balls to act like those comments aren't even worth acknowledging? Who the fuck do you think you are?

(Anonymous) 2018-04-29 03:52 am (UTC)(link)Exactly. Seriously, I hear fic writers complain all the time nowadays about how nobody reviews anymore, nobody takes the time to leave a comment on a fic they're enjoying...
...and then I see so many of those very same fic writers complaining because they got a comment that just said, "I love this!". Or they got critique. Or they didn't get critique. Or they got this sort of comment, or that sort of comment, and so on and so forth. It's to the point now where it seems readers can't win with some writers no matter WHAT they say, and feeling like they have to hit some sort of "perfect comment/review" checklist, so I totally don't blame some readers for going, "Screw it, I just won't comment at all, then."
The only kinds of comments I can agree with complaints about are, obviously, flames and "kill yourself" comments and things of that sort, spam, and somebody knowingly going into a fic that the tags and labels make abundantly clear they won't like and whining about why the author is writing pairing C/D when A/B is superior, or why they're writing a particular kink, or so on. Those kinds of comments would absolutely be annoying.
But beyond that, people either need to quit being so freaking picky, or if they want to restrict the sorts of comments and reviews they get, that's fine, they have the right to do that, it's their story and their comment section to moderate...but then they should also be prepared for the possibility that will lead to less reviews as a result.
