Who's your favorite ridiculously beautiful character from a book?

And did the TV show/movie adaptation do a good job with the casting?

Sauron. His fair form, that is, before he lost it at Numenor. Supernaturally beautiful chosen from that he used to trick everyone into doing what he wanted. So it had to be pretty good.

Also a lot of elves. Finrod, Glorfindel, Fingon, Fingolfin, Maedhros, Celebrimbor, Luthien, Galadriel, Celeborn, Arwen, Legolas, Thranduil. Just, elves in general.

I think the movies sometimes did okay and sometimes didn't. The choices for Galadriel and Arwen to me were really good. Same with Thranduil. Legolas was okay. Elrond not so much. I love Hugo Weaving, but he was not the right choice. And Celeborn's actor looked kind of odd. And I like the idea of an elf like Tauriel, but her storyline was ruined, and I don't think the casting was the right choice.

Do you have a dream cast for those roles?

Hmmm, not sure. If they were going for a more diverse cast at the time, I think Idris Elba could have pulled Elrond off. He's older now, though. Michael Sheen might be okay. And maybe this is out there, but John Hamm. Not entirely sure he could pull off the wig. But I think he could get the book character right.

Also, Diego Morgado needs to be cast as an elf. Not sure who, but he needs to be one of the elves.

If they could've cast David Bowie circa 1985 for Elrond, I would've loved that.

Elrond is my favorite, and Hugo Weaving did not do him justice.
philstar22: (Elrond one of those days)

So very much agreed. Hugo Weaving is a great actor, but he was not Elrond. It was like they created an OC and then stuck Elrond's name on him.

Enjolras from Les Mis. Some adaptations have gotten close but idk of anything could match Hugo's ridiculous prose.

Back when I was really into Twilight, I thought all the people cast for the Cullens (with the exception of Alice) were so wrong because they weren't ridiculously beautiful. Looking back, I think they did okay, though I still don't know what they were trying to do with some of their hair.

Buttercup and Westley in The Princess Bride.

I think the movie did a pretty good job because I thought Cary Elwes and Robin Wright were both very lovely in it.
