Apparently a lot of people found Joyce in season one of Stranger Things annoying and shrill. I thought it was a good and emotive performance of a mother losing her son and also her mind a little bit.

I thought that was kind of the point - we can see how Joyce might look hysterical and crazy from an outsider's point of view, but WE know that she's absolutely correct and her son IS in terrible danger and she can't get anyone to take her seriously.

She was great!

I mean, do I love Winona Ryder no matter what she's actually in? yes, absolutely, but still, she was great even setting that aside.
