Best performance from a child actor?

Partly inspired by the Dakota Fanning comment above.

My personal vote is the little girl in The Fall (2006).

Saoirse Ronan in “Atonement.” Everyone in that movie was good, but she was particularly great. Really sold it.

Keisha Castle-Hughes in “Whale Rider” (need to watch this again).

Quvenzhane Wallis in Beasts of the Southern Wild and 12 Years a Slave.

Chloe Morentz was the best thing about Kick-Ass. I didn't love the movie, but I really enjoyed her performance.

There are plenty of other performances I thought were decent. But these are the ones I think can be called the best. I'd also say Kirstin Dunst in both Interview with a Vampire and Little Women was great. And Christian Bale showed some of his later talent in Empire of the Sun.

I completely agree with you. She was great, and that is one of my favorite movies.

Haley Joel Osment in The Sixth Sense.

Though I don't like some of the things she's been in Abigail Breslin almost always gave a hell of a performance (maybe not Nim's Island, but I actually think that had more to do with the script and direction, than her acting).

They weren't *little* kids, but I thought all four of the boys in Stand By Me did a really good job.
