Anyone calling Jurassic Park nuanced deserves to be laughed at.

It was about as subtle as a brick to a face. Not only does it actually have characters that flat-out state that they shouldn't have done it, it also shows it terrifying detail exactly why it was a bad idea. It was a good movie and did bring up moral questions, but nuanced? And I'd say the book was even more heavy-handed

I mean. If they mean it's nuanced compared to Jurassic World, then maybe they have a point.

+1

The original at least had sympathetic people making bad decisions, or disagreeing with bad decisions but being seduced by the allure of having power over the animals nonetheless, etc. Jurassic World was obviously blaring from the beginning who was going to be a victim of hubris and made it all too heavy-handed who we were supposed to like or dislike.

Funnily enough, the book was much more like Jurassic World in that sense. The Jurassic Park movie made Hammond much more sympathetic (a lot of that had to do with casting the role first and then having to alter it) than he ever was in the book.

Michael Crichton recycled the same plot and setup he used in Westworld with genetic engineering swapped for complex computer systems, complete with the "they can't see me if I do THIS" plot beat.

Wasn't that basically the plot of everything he wrote? I mean, I like the book Jurassic Park, but nuance is not in any way Crichtons thing.
