It's one of the more irrational reasons! He's also outspokenly anti-yaoi, which is another reason. Although generally, most of the things I've heard him say don't really go all THAT far. There's one thing I've heard secondhand, which, if he DID say it, is going too far--something about Fay being absolutely NOT gay, and he should know because he's the voice actor and knows everything, even though it's a CLAMP character--but besides that, for the most part he just has the audacity to...well, say what he believes. I do think that sometimes he doesn't know when to stop, and his fans are a little insane, which is why I don't really consider myself a fan of his anymore, but...I don't see how it's any different than, say, the voice actors who made an anti-war CD together. (Which, by the way, I think is cool of them to do if they want to do it. Since when is it not OK for people to say what they believe?)

Ah yeah, I remember hearing something about the anti-yaoi thing now.
Even the thing about Fay (dunno who that is) doesn't seem like it would be a big deal, depending on how he said it. It's no different than Fraser Hines saying he played Jamie as if Jamie were in love with Victoria, even though the writers didn't make that so (Doctor Who). (On the other hand, if it was the way you put it, then yeah, that's a big arrogant, but I can understand being freaked out. I was always amazed at how well the LotR actors handled things like being handed photomanips of them doing things to each other.) Honestly, if he's anti-yaoi and outspoken about it, I almost have to give him props, given how insane fandom is in general.

And honestly-honestly...I can't imagine a guy talking about how his faith relates to topic-at-hand is all that different from the uber-yaoi fangirls who make every single thing about pretty boys sexing.

Right. I mean, I've heard about things like...a yaoi fangirl yelling and cursing at Vic for refusing to autograph a Ed/Roy doujinshi. It's a doujinshi, it's not official anyway, so he has the perfect right to refuse to sign it if he doesn't want to.

I was actually the one asking the question there... it was equal parts wanting to annoy him and wanting to ask a baited question to get his "official" opinion when I'd only heard what his rumoured opinion was. So um, there you go!

Just jumping in to add: it is ridiculous to hate Vic because he decides to host Sunday services, because you always have the option of not going. I can see being annoyed if he coupled the Sunday Service with his actual panel, since those who didn't want to sit through the church crap but actually wanted to attend his panel would feel jilted, but it's not something to attack him for.

Mostly, just wanted to say that what bugs me about his anti-yaoi thing is the way he says even minor things, and the fact that last I heard, he was bring it up at practically every panel for no reason than he wanted to preach to the fangirls about it being teh wrongz. I don't care if he likes yaoi or hates it, is a homophobe or not, because it sucks but I obviously can't stop him. I just wish he'd realize that when he says making characters gay is a horrible thing and disrespectful to the creator's original work, he's practically straight-out saying that being gay is a horrible thing and something shaming, and that anyone bi or gay in his audience is probably horribly uncomfortable when he goes on about it. I don't like some of his roles (I think people are casting him in roles he doesn't fit just because OMG HE'S VIC MIGNOGNA now), I think some of them are okay, and there are a couple I absolutely LOVE, and I would enjoy going to one of his panels if I wasn't worried about having to sit through him suddenly bringing up why gay is so icky and disgusting and horrible for no reason.

L-LESS TL;DR he'll believe whatever he's gonna believe, but I think he should have the decency not to say something hateful and potentially hurtful at all of his panels, because man I feel sorry for the fans he is, perhaps accidentally, bashing. ):
