If you finish all your tasks on time/do projects needed/etc...why do you just sit around and twiddle your thumbs when you come in early?

I mean...why are you not working on projects you already have?

I mean, the could get done earlier, but they probably won't be let go earlier.

I am not the AYRT.

I had a boss who would pull this to try to get unpaid overtime out of their employees. If I was clocked in and getting paid I was working.

If I had been dragged out of bed early for an "important mandatory meeting", my butt was either going home, or chilling in the break room until my actual workday started.

Presumably anon doesn't have ongoing projects they can be working on before the boss gets there to give out the day's assignments, or they wouldn't be sitting there twiddling their thumbs.

It's not actually that uncommon in some lines of work to be given the bulk of your workload on a day-to-day basis.

ayrt

First thing in the morning there's generally not anything to do yet. The previous day's tasks are finished the previous day, so unless there's an especially large project (which only happens a few times a year, and when it does, I'll absolutely work on it when I'm asked to come in early) there's not anything to do. My day to day tasks are pretty much always the same, but they depend on other people doing specific things first. So until Joe does X or Carol does Y, there's not anything for me to do.
