There could be a lot of real reasons beside the person being an asshole. Maybe they kicked out the family member because they were into drugs, violent, refuse to follow basic house rules, or the person couldn't continue to financially support them just to name a few. The cousin could be moving the boyfriend in to help as a way to help pay the bills.

Or it could be something as simple as they want to have their own life with their SO without having to be responsible for someone else who they really didn't technically have to take in.
