I am definitely a Goldilocks in look for that just right size fandom. Too small and I feel deflated that there isn't more attention (or any attention) on my fics. Medium sized is good but there's still a high chance that my rare pair (which is all I ever end up shipping) has any other person in it. Too large and there are antis and too much fic to actually find anything. My fic still doesn't get attention as it's immediately buried in the mass.

I just want a fandom with enough people who like what I like but I can also slip in something weird without them realizing it's me.

There's some medium sized video game fandoms--large enough that there are active readers, small enough that readers are willing to give a large variety of fic a try! Fallout and Mass Effect are both pretty welcoming!

honestly I'm not sure such a thing exists anymore

Eh. There's no guarantee they would 'find' it, and if they did, well - they'd hardly tell you about it.

Write what you like!

No one would bat an eye if it's for Oglaf.

(Anonymous) 2018-05-08 02:07 am (UTC)(link)
OP: I love Oglaf, but unfortunately I've never wanted to write smutfic for it. It's smut enough already

Unfortunately my experience with webcomics has taught me that - even in the rare event that the webcomics don't suck - the fandoms still do

Try Unsounded by Ashley Cope, she loves dirty, smutty fanfic/art!

(Anonymous) 2018-05-08 02:06 am (UTC)(link)
OP: I did try unsounded, but for some reason I couldn't get into it. I'll maybe try it again

if I had peoplke who read my webcomic write such things, I wouldn't mind, tbqh. I'd ignore it or applaud the author, because I too like such fic lol

webcomic creator here. we seriously fucking love it when people write porn about our stuff. please live your truth.

(Anonymous) 2018-05-08 02:22 am (UTC)(link)
same anon: also i know a lot of other creators who dont go looking for that stuff out of respect for folks like you who might be mortified about it...

...but still, live your truth

(Anonymous) 2018-05-08 02:39 am (UTC)(link)
OP: In your experience, do creators care about peoples' ships?

(Anonymous) 2018-05-08 02:53 am (UTC)(link)
SA: no, I don't think so! maybe the super young ones (i'm talking the 19-22 y/os who have something to prove). but IME we all get psyched about how other people enjoy playing with our toys. whenever I've seen people shipping two of my characters that I didn't expect, I'm honestly overjoyed that they've found a new way to enjoy my work haha

Easy: Have discussions under your regular pseud, post filthy porn under a sockpuppet account.
