I would have preferred to have seen at least the first Newt Scamander movie as a book. JK Rowling is good at narrative and character building, which were missing almost entirely. I think everything would have made more sense in novel form.

I thought the characterization and narrative were solid for a 2-hour film, but I would have loved a whole book.

Me too. I definitely wouldn't love the HP movie characters as much if I hadn't read the books first, and I still like the movies a lot.

I didn't dislike Fantastic Beasts, but I really miss having characters I'm invested in and feel like I know. I'm not even sure that I like Tina. I suspect if I'd read about how Newt sees her (and how J.K. Rowling sees her) I probably could, but I didn't connect with her as a character. I also have questions about bigger plot points and I'm impatient and I want to read ahead.

AYRT: Exactly. I felt that we were supposed to like Tina, and text would have helped with that. Maybe the next movie will deliver; I hope so.
