Star Wars fandom, fuck you. I love Star Wars so much, but you ruin my enjoyment. I want to fandom. I want to read fics. I want to enjoy my love. But I can't. Because every time I step near the fandom, all I see is hate. And I never know when I click on a fic if there will be bashing of something in it because random bashing is showing up in so many fics.

You are ruining Star Wars for everyone. Stop being assholes. Stop assuming everyone hates what you hate. Allow people to enjoy the things that they enjoy, even if you don't. For fuck's sake, no one owes you anything. The writers/creators did not owe you the movie you wanted. They are allowed to make something you don't like.

So out of the loop with Star Wars, but that's about how I feel when it comes to Harry Potter.

I feel like in Harry Potter, though, you could always find places that weren't filled with hate. Places where you could enjoy the things you love. Unless the fandom has changed since I left.

But with Star Wars, the haters are invading everywhere. They are specifically OT fans who hate everything that isn't the OT (really, everything that isn't ANH or ESB) and believe that everyone should share their opinion or that if they say it loud enough or often enough their "objective opinion" will change things and make the movie makers do what they want.

It's kind of like that in HP fandom, but it sounds like Star Wars is more complicated. I'll give you that.

I would suggest fully leaving the tumblr side of it if it's that bad, but it sounds like it's bled onto Ao3 as well and I don't have any suggestions for that.

Its bled everywhere. It's on Tumblr, AO3, Facebook, the Livejournal forums I follow. I can't find anywhere that is free of either The Last Jedi or Prequel hate. Mostly TLJ hate right now.

Ooof. Yeah I'm really sorry about that. :(

I've got no vested interested in these movies, they're fun and that's about it for me, but I can certainly understand how utterly frustrating and tiring it'd be to see nothing but hate for something you love.

I didn't find TLJ awful and I don't hate the prequels like 'you're supposed to' so I probably wouldn't get on in those spaces either if I wanted to talk about it, lol.

I've not been there for a while now, but maybe check out the nightly.net forum? Don't think it's as active as it used to be, but it might be something?

...maybe I won't try to get back into this fandom after all! I was really into it after ROTS, and I don't think there was as much prequel hate then as there is now. I just assumed if I got into the new stuff, I could find my own little corner of it that was enjoyable :/

Maybe it is because for the most part I only read the fic itself and don't bother with author notes or comments, but I haven't seen any bashing on AO3?

I guess it also depends on the characters/ships/themes each of us looks for, but it just strikes me as weird that we're having such different experiences.
