Okay so I just saw a Harry Potter 'theory' video that just.. AUGH I want to set things on fire. For several reasons but mainly because of the awfulness of what they're implying.

"what if the Durseleys were actually GOOD for Harry, because had he lived with his parents and been famous he might have gotten an ego"

Okay FIRST of all, genius... the only reason he's famous is because he survived something that kills EVERYONE (including HIS PARENTS). Had they not died he wouldn't be famous.

Second. Can we talk about how horrible that is too suggest? "It's a good thing this child was neglected and abused or he might have developed some kind of EGO. and that would be HORRIBLE. So like... a child whose spirit has been near broken is better than a child who's got a little too much confidence for people's taste. Ego in childhood is something you can grow out of. But the scars that abuse, neglect and bullying cause? Are MUCH harder to fix and to some degree may be there forever.

Also the suggestion that abuse was GOOD for someone is disgusting.

So they basically went with Dumbledore's reasoning for leaving him there in like half of the Dumbledore-bashing fics?

Dude, when so many people are using that same train of thought to show that a character is uncaring or outright evil, maybe you should reconsider your theory.

Yeah really. I can't understand how someone can suggest that without realizing they sound like a Roald Dahl villain.
